THE BRUNEI Rugby Football Union (BRFU) will be organising it's first International Rugby Board (IRB) Level 1 Match Official Course on Sept 7.

Conducted by the IRB's Matthew Oakley at Jerudong International School (JIS) from 9am to 6pm, BRFU hopes the course will develop talented rugby match officials to carry Brunei's flag at international rugby test matches.

The Level 1 Match Official Course is the starting point for one to become an official for test matches.

To become an official for test matches, match officials needs to sit for the Level 2 and Level 3 courses the latter ensuring he will be in demand to officiate international test matches around the world.

BRFU believes Bruneians have the chance to officiate international test matches once they reach Level 3 because of their command of English.

To be a rugby match official, one needs to be fit, have hawk eyes vision and good communication skills, said BRFU in a press release yesterday.

The course is open for all, however there will be limited places available.

Those interested in attending can contact Ainol Razman Mohd Ghazaly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 8886970.
