GCSE Results
The proportion of JIS students achieving high grades at GCSE continues to rise. 64.2% of subject entries earned A*-B grades (up from 56.9%) while the figure for A*-C grades rose to 85.7%.
The overall pass rate of 85.7% is a result of excellent performances in many subjects: cumulative percentages of A*s, As and Bs were as follows: Statistics (100%, for the second consecutive year), Chinese (100% for both first language and foreign speakers), Spanish (100%, for the second consecutive year), Foreign Language Malay (95%), Drama (91.7%), Economics (88.9%), English Literature (81.3%), French (74.1%), Art & Design (68.4%), Mathematics (67.2%), History (66.7%), English as a Second Language (64.9%), Accounting (61.5%), Geography (55.8%), Physical Education and Sport (53.3%) and Music (50%). Our first cohort of students completed the triple science programme this year, with outstanding results. Across the full range of qualifications available, 71.1% of entries gained A* to B grades. Of those students who completed separate GCSE subjects in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, the figures were, respectively, 94.3%, 100% and 94.3%.
The following students achieved some outstanding results: Adeeb Rahman (9A*, 2A), Redwan Haque (8A*, 3A), Azim Daud and Yee Yin Tang (8A*, 2A), Tasha Eliassen (7A*, 4A), Chung Tee Lim (7A*, 3A), Catherine Lawrey and Euodia Tay (6A*, 4A), Janet Tan (5A*, 4A), Iqra Effendi (4A*, 6A), Jessica Ang (4A*, 5A) and Chandhini Gowthamam (4A*, 3A).
A-level Results
JIS students' performance has continued to strengthen, while candidate numbers have increased by a further 7%. The percentages of students who achieved A grades, A to B grades and A to C grades all increased from last year along with the overall pass rate. 32.8% were awarded an A grade; 60.5% were graded A to B, 82.7% of subject entries gained A to C grades and the overall pass rate (A to E) was 99.5%.
There were excellent performances in many subjects, most notably in Further Mathematics where all ten candidates gained A grades. Percentages of As or Bs were as follows: Music Technology 100%, Art & Design 77.8%, Accounting 76.9%, Mathematics 72.5%, Product Design 71.4%, Chemistry 68.6%, Business Studies and Drama & Theatre Studies both 66.7%, Economics 56.7%, Psychology 55.6%, Physics 53.6% and Biology 51.5%. In seven subjects 100% of students gained grades A to C.
John Price, the Principal of JIS said, "I am extremely pleased with these results. Students and teachers can be very proud of their achievements. Standards are continuing to rise. We try to allow all students with a reasonable chance of success onto our A-level courses, so these results are a testimony to the hard work and commitment of both students and teachers.”
Seven students gained five A grades at A-level: Kai Mueller, Ryan Faruque, Emma Foulkes, Nithin Kanianthara, Adeline Kho, Larissa Ong, Jvaneel Parekh. Five more gained four A-level A grades: Sarathy Anbuselvam, Ezza Hani, Kate Lane, Jasmine Ng and Yiran Zhang. Finally, ten students gained three A grades at A-level: Fathimah Almunawar, Hasib Akand, Simon Booley, Rafee Hoque, Lydia Lee, Joanna Lim, Shikhar Mohan, Dorren Naia, Joel Thomas, Aizat Yasmin. 19.2% of JIS A-level candidates gained at least three A grades at A-level.
In mainstream subjects at AS-level, 25% of entries gained A grades, with very good performances in many subjects.
